How We Do It

How We Do It

Donations

Our donations come from private individuals, businesses and charitable trusts.  You can contribute in several ways, for example.

Grassroots Endowment

We hold over £1.5 million in endowment.  We spend a proportion on grants (4.8% of the fund value a year) and on operational costs (1.2%).  That means that £72,000 a year is distributed to people and projects and £18,000 subsidises our operations.

Named Funds

You may, like the Cornish and the Batts families, want to set up your own donor-advised fund.  The Evan Cornish Fund is awarding £500,000 over 5 years to grassroots groups.  Colin Batts spends something like £10,000 a year on children in need.

Local Authorities also get involved in grant making, for example, Sleaford Town Council, whose elected members have built up a £10,000 a year programme funded mainly from donating their unclaimed expenses.

Incentives

  1. Tax Relief on you gift of up to 37.5% for a high rate tax payer.
  2. Gift Aid:  The Foundation can often add 25% to the gift.
  3. Government “match”.  Through a scheme called “community first” sponsored by the Cabinet Office, we can match your donation pound-for-pound.
