How We Do It
Donations
Our donations come from private individuals, businesses and charitable trusts. You can contribute in several ways, for example.
Grassroots Endowment
We hold over £1.5 million in endowment. We spend a proportion on grants (4.8% of the fund value a year) and on operational costs (1.2%). That means that £72,000 a year is distributed to people and projects and £18,000 subsidises our operations.
Named Funds
You may, like the Cornish and the Batts families, want to set up your own donor-advised fund. The Evan Cornish Fund is awarding £500,000 over 5 years to grassroots groups. Colin Batts spends something like £10,000 a year on children in need.
Local Authorities also get involved in grant making, for example, Sleaford Town Council, whose elected members have built up a £10,000 a year programme funded mainly from donating their unclaimed expenses.
Incentives
- Tax Relief on you gift of up to 37.5% for a high rate tax payer.
- Gift Aid: The Foundation can often add 25% to the gift.
- Government “match”. Through a scheme called “community first” sponsored by the Cabinet Office, we can match your donation pound-for-pound.
