Community Organisers

Anyone in the know will tell you that top-down (the government telling you what you need) doesn’t cut the mustard.  What does work is a “bottom up” grassroots approach:  find out what people need, then help them make it happen.  That’s exactly what Community Organisers are all about.  The Community Foundation is hosting the first Lincolnshire-based “community organisers”, a team of 4 to work in the South and East of the County.

Community Organisers “get stuck in”   E Lindsey, Boston & Donington

We’re looking for 4 trainees to work in their local community, building networks, listening to people and helping them make their dreams become reality.  We’ll give them office space and all the help they need:  training, materials, expenses, team meetings and so on.  The “employer” is our programme sponsor, www.locality.org.uk – they second the trainees to the Community Foundation as hosts www.lincolnshirecf.co.uk    The trainer is www.regeneratetrust.org

We’ll give candidates more details in the application pack.

Lincolnshire Community Foundation has distributed £7 million in community grants from the Humber to the Wash since 2002.  We galvanize communities from the grassroots up; small grants and interventions making a big difference.

Community Organisers is run by Locality.  They will train and support 500 full-time community organisers throughout the UK by March 2013.  The programme was created by the Office for Civil Society.  Locality was formed through the merger of the British Association of Settlements and Social Action Centres & the Development Trusts Association.
