The Evan Cornish Fund gave a grant to enable digitalisation of the Talking Newspaper to provide better quality audio recordings and to improve the service and opportunities to volunteers.

Talking Newspaper have 112 listeners and 12 new clients since they started providing a digital service. The service now operates more efficiently with up to date equipment and, in addition, sensory impaired clients have benefitted from better audio quality. The group has raised awareness of the free service by a number of measures including: producing their first leaflet promoting availability of the service, distributed with the Macular Groups Newsletter, and local Health Centre. They’ve made good contacts at the Royal Eye Unit/Pilgrim Hospital and will be speaking to a Glaucoma group. A 90-year-old listener who lives alone in an isolated farmhouse reported she was delighted with her new player; it was easy to use and the quality is much better.
